The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has demanded the resignation of the president, prime minister, chief of army staff, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general (DG), military intelligence (MI) DG and the federal interior minister on their failure to shield the sovereignty of Pakistan on the day of American army’s operation in Abottabad against Osama Bin Laden. The LHCBA demanded resignations through a resolution in the bar’s general house meeting chaired by LHCBA President Asghar Ali Gill on Friday. Through another resolution, the LHCBA insisted on holding court martial of the chief of army staff, ISI and MI DGs for their alleged negligence in defending the country’s borders.
The resolution was presented by Zafar Ullah and was passed unanimously. Gill, former LHCBA president Awais Ahmed, former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) secretary Raja Zulqarnain and lawyers including Muhammad Sharif Chohan and Sultan Mehmood Khan condemned the US’ operation in Pakistan. LHCBA Secretary Arshad Malik Awan, LHCBA Vice President Mian Muhammad Jahangir and a large number of lawyers were present on the occasion. Lawyers said that in the Military Core Commander Conference held on May 5 the faces of Core Commanders were dejected with shame.
They said the army could not defend the country’s border despite being well fed with a major chunk of the national income. Lawyers chanted slogans against the federal government and intelligence agencies for causing ‘fissure’ in the national security. They said country had been left at the mercy of US Commandos and gunship helicopters, which toyed with territorial sanctity of the country.
Gill Pakistanis had high expectations from the armed forces and these expectations were shattered after the US’ operation. He said there was a thin difference between ‘cowardice’ and ‘avoiding fight,’ and in the recent incident it appeared as if the high-ups ‘feared’ clash with US. He said the government and the army chief had humiliated 18 core people of Pakistan by this compromising attitude.
JAP DEMANDS GOVERNMENT’S DISSOLUTION: A meeting of the executive committee of judicial activism penal (JAP) held under the chair of JAP Chairman Muhammad Azhar Siddique reviewed situation after US’ operation in Pakistan and demanded dissolution of the incumbent government, including national and provincial assemblies, so that fresh election may be conducted to building new government in Islamabad for thwarting emerging threats to sovereignty of Pakistan. In a statement issued on Friday, JAP chairman said US’ operation in Pakistan had proved that Pakistan’s solidarity was facing threats and the government had failed in defending the country from US aggression.
