Word has it that last week there was quite an interesting exchange between Firdous Ashiq Awan and Qamar Zaman Kaira during the swearing in ceremony of PML(Q) at the Presidency. The outspoken lady told Kaira that his kurta was a little short for him. Kaira promptly replied “The speed with which our political stature is shrinking, this kurta will soon be the right size for me”. Point taken.

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend plus some goodies”, apparently that is how the Zardari-Chaudhry cosying-up is justified by group leaders to their foot soldiers. Unfortunately the “apple” that is the deputy prime ministership turned out to be nothing but a mirage. Then there was the defense ministry. Rumour had it that its current occupant was itching to resign and move on to the water and power ministry hoping to become a Raja Rental. But that got muddied in Gujrat politics. How could a PPP Chaudhry be replaced by his archrival the PML Chaudhry from Gujrat? In the end, Parvez Elahi got the toothless Ministry of Defense Production and some clout. We now have two unhappy Chaudhrys from Gujrat, both putting on a brave face.

Apparently the designer lawn war has become fierce and nasty. Women throng tailors with their purchases in the race to wear them first. In one reported case, a woman in Lahore found out that another kitty group member had succeeded in getting the “X” designer lawn jora stitched in time and was likely to wear it to their common kitty party. Needless to say the lady wore a “Y” jora to the party but took her maid along wearing, what else but the “X” jora. Now that is cutting the rival and the jora to size in one go.
Petty, you say? Disrespectful to the poor maid? Well, yes. But what’s your point?
