A constitutional petition has been filed at the Sindh High Court seeking restoration of electricity supply in several areas of Bin Qasim Town. The petition was filed by Syed Muhammad Iqbal Kazim, who said that due to negligence of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), a technical fault in the transformer has not been removed yet and it has resulted in power failure in different areas of Bin Qasim Town for almost a fortnight.
Kazim submitted that Jeelani Mohalla, Madni Masjid, Bhains Colony, Yousuf Goth and other parts of Bin Qasim Town are without electricity since April 24 due to some technical fault in the transformer installed in the town. The residents had informed the KESC complaint cell regarding the fault, but so far no steps have been taken in this regard, resulting in several localities of the town to be deprived of electricity.
The petitioner prayed that the respondents be directed to ensure providing electricity to the consumers while complying with Articles 5 and 25 of the Electricity Act of 1920, which protect the rights of the consumers. It was also stated in the petition that the KESC is bound to providing quality electricity to the citizens without any discrimination.
The KESC head and other relevant authorities were cited as respondents in the petition, and the petitioner pleaded that they be ordered to ensuring distribution of electricity to the consumers who pay their electricity bills on time.
