Pakistan has suffered more than any other country in the war against militancy and terrorism and no one should question the country’s commitment or intentions to fight the menace of terror, President Asif Ali Zardari said on Thursday. The president said this while addressing PPP parliamentarians and officer-bearers of Lahore division at the Presidency. Reiterating the government’s commitment to continue fighting militants, the president said Pakistan would seek cooperation of the world community until the complete eradication of the terrorism for peace and stability in the region and the world.
He said the nation had paid heavily in the war against terrorism, losing thousands of its innocent men, women and children, besides suffering colossal economic losses. Commenting on political re-alignment and alliance with the PML-Q and other parties, Zardari said people had reposed great confidence in the party and the PPP would continue to work to strengthen political reconciliation in the country to address various critical issues confronting the country, particularly the economic situation.
“The party will rise to the expectations of the people and is determined to give them a Pakistan with a strong democracy and state institutions and a stable economy,” he said. “The government’s performance will speak in the upcoming general elections and the party will win the confidence of the people in the polls,” Zardari said. President commended the maturity with which all political parties agreed and passed a bill in parliament to make CNICs cards mandatory for vote registration and polling.
