Criticising the government for what he called its oblivious attitude in safeguarding Pakistan’s national interest, opposition leader Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday demanded the government take the nation into confidence over the US forces’ operation in Abbottabad that led to the killing of Osama bin Laden.
Addressing a press conference at the Parliament House, Nisar said the government must share all details of the operation and respond strongly to the statements issued by the US and India following the killing of the Al Qaeda leader. “The night US helicopters were trampling Pakistan’s sovereignty, a meena bazaar of power sharing was set up at the Presidency,” he said. Nisar said Pakistan had rendered unmatched sacrifices in operations against terrorists and remarks being given by US officials and an Indian minister after the episode were unacceptable.
The opposition leader said the PML-N would fully support the government on the issue. Nisar said it was puzzling why the government had remained mum over the issue even after the lapse of four days. “Even the prime minister did not cancel his foreign visit to address this vital issue,” he said. About the PPP, PML-Q alliance, Nisar said this was worse than the NRO. He criticised the PML-Q and the MQM for joining the federal cabinet, saying both parties had their own vested interests.
To a question, he said the MQM should have been named the Muttahida Qalabazian (somersaults) Movement.
