Shaikh meets delegation heads at ADB moot

Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh held a series of meetings with the heads of delegations of other countries at the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of Asian Development Bank in Hanoi, Vietnam. The minister is leading Pakistan’s delegation in the 44th annual meeting of ADB, being held from May 03-06, said a press release from the Finance Ministry on Wednesday. He met the State Bank of Vietnam Governor Dr Nguyen Van Giau, Belgium Minister of Finance Dier Reyneeers, Spain Minister of Economy and Finance Elena Salgado, France Finance Minister Christine Lagarde, Philippines Secretary of Finance Cesar Purisima and Central Bank of Afghanistan Governor Abdul Qadeer Fitrat.
During these meetings, he exchanged views on bilateral and mutual interest and briefed leaders on economic progress, challenges in the economic and development sectors and steps implemented by the present government to overcome the crises. ADB President Haruhio Karuda also addressed the meeting, while an ADB team gave a presentation on food security in SAARC Countries. The minister also spoke on the challenges of food inflation and policy responses by Pakistan to mitigate its impact including cash transfers through BISP. He highlighted that Pakistan was expecting a bumper crop as a result of right price incentives.
