Pakistan Today comes out on the top in the battle of the Osama covers with its simple and evocative image of the former Al Qaeda chief, which was splashed across the international press. A significant number of prominent international media outlets gave strong coverage to Pakistan Today’s front page.
The saying, a picture is worth a thousand words, proved apt when various popular media houses, including Reuters, AFP, BBC, Al-Jazeera, Gulf News, Foreign Policy Magazine, The Telegraph, Forbes, European Pressphoto Agency, Times of India and Yahoo carried the powerful front page cover image of Pakistan Today.
The photo which captured the attention of the world media was first released by the French news agency Agence France Presse (AFP) and was carried not only on print and electronic editions of the newspapers but was also witnessed on various TV channels, blogs like Café Piyala and search engines.
Despite the large number of unique covers printed across the world on what was clearly the topic of the decade, Pakistan Today was the international representative of the Pakistani press. The full page colour picture of bin Laden and bold red one word headline ‘DEAD’ truly captured the essence of the event.
