Osama bin Laden and his accomplices were involved in the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Wednesday, Geo News reported.
In his latest statement to reporters at the Karachi airport, Malik said, “I appeal to the nation to stand united as it did in 1965 war against India,” adding that Pakistan was in a state of war. “The ISI, police and army are working hand-in-hand. We know how to deal with this situation and how to safeguard the country,” the interior minister said. “Law enforcement operations against terrorists, miscreants and militants will continue,” he said.
To a question about PPP-MQM relations, Malik said the MQM had always proved to be a good coalition partner and the government also wanted to give an equal status to all its coalition partners, APP repoted. He thanked Altaf Hussain on extending help to the PPP in face of the difficulties it was facing. “MQM chief Altaf Hussain has helped the PPP in difficult times and we could not ignore them,” he added.
Later, talking to reporters out the Parliament House, Malik said the Foreign Office alone was authorised to give statements and comments on the issue APP reported. He said the Foreign Office and Interior Ministry were enjoying full cooperation on the issue and there was complete harmony between the two.
