Sindh advocate general, deputy attorney general put on notice

The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices to the Sindh advocate general and the deputy attorney general among other respondents on Tuesday in two separate missing person cases. The division bench comprising SHC Chief Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, while hearing two identical constitutional petitions, put the respondents on notice for the next date that would be fixed later.
The applicants, alleging that intelligence and law enforcement agencies had picked up their relatives, had pleaded that the whereabouts of the missing persons be ascertained. One petition was moved by Syed Sakhab Mian. He submitted that his son named Qari Nawab was picked up by intelligence and law enforcement personnel a few months ago but his arrest has not been made public nor his whereabouts ascertained.
The petitioner stated that his son was abducted from the Quaidabad bus station on January 24 as he was leaving for native village. He added that following the incident, he had approached higher officials to determine his whereabouts but the law enforcers did not show any seriousness.
The second identical petition was filed by Shafi Ahmed, the father of missing Muhammad Waqar. The appellant submitted that his son was abducted on April 24 by the law enforcers from their house located in Golden town within the jurisdiction of Shah Faisal Colony police.
Citing director generals of Inter-Services Intelligence, Military Intelligence, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and Sindh Inspector General of Police, Karachi Capital City Police Officer, and Quaidabad and Shah Faisal Colony police officers as respondents, the plaintiffs pleaded that the whereabouts of the two missing persons be established and they be produced before the court, if they were wanted in any criminal charges.
After hearing preliminary arguments from the petitioners’ counsels, the bench ordered the law enforcers to submit their inquiry reports regarding the missing of the two persons.
