Federal Minister for Railways Ghulam Ahmed Bilour will inaugurate Sahiwal-Chichawatni section of Khanewal-Raiwind dual-track project by Pakistan Railways (PR) on Thursday (today). Sources said that doubling of tracks of Khanewal-Raiwind line (121 Km) has been completed and the opening of this section would help in improving train timings for both passenger and cargos. They said that the Lodhran-Multan-Khanewal line was completed in March 2007, while work on the remaining sections was being carried out. Khanewal-Raiwind line (246 km) was being doubled at a cost of Rs.8.3 billion, while the Khanewal-Sahiwal (119 km) section opened in April 2010.
They said that the doubling of around 126km-long Shahdra Bagh–Lalamusa section, costing Rs 14136, was also in the PR’s plan book and would complete within three years, while, Shahdra Bagh–Faisalabad 135km-long section would be doubled at a cost of Rs 10486 million. Estimated costs for the doubling of tracks of 152km-long Lalamusa–Chaklala section and 160km-long Golra Sharif–Peshawar Cantt section are Rs 23770 million and Rs 19560 million respectively and would complete in four years from the date of commencement.
if track is double from karachi to peshawar then their is a very stong chance that railway deficit could be overcome.
