Punjab Ombudsman Children’s Complaint Office (CCO) on Tuesday commemorated International Labour Day at a village near Jallo More on a brick kiln site in collaboration with UNICEF Punjab and Bunyad Literacy Consultative Community. Children of brick kiln labourers participated in the event with great fervour. They sung national songs, played tablo, recited poetry, played a cricket match and also took part in bhangra while a drawing competition was also arranged for the children.
Focal Person CCO Ehsan Ghani read the message of the Punjab ombudsman relating to “Children Labour is Denial of Rights”. “May 1 teaches us to act seriously for betterment of children and to eliminate bonded child labour. We should ensure that children have their basic rights including health care, education and entertainment. The CCO’s basic aim is to ensure implementation of child rights laws,” the message read. The focal person said that the increase in child labour is alarming.
