The administration of the Punjab University (PU) has accused Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) activists for torturing PU employees and breaking the locks of varsity’s Gate No 4 on Tuesday. PU IJT Nazim told Pakistan Today that PU admin was barring IJT to smoothly hold their sports activities and book fair, thus, it was natural for the IJT members to react. He said that PU administration was charging IJT with false allegations.
According to the PU administration, IJT’s torture on PU employees was proved through CCTV footage, while IJT also sabotaged the friendly environment of the varsity by tearing down posters and using unfair means in other activities. According to the students and the faculty of the university, IJT has a history of using unfair means at the varsity.
In the past, IJT had been involved in not only torturing students and faculty members, supposedly in a bid to establish ‘religion’ on the varsity’s premises, but also in beating varsity’s employees. While many accuse pro-IJT teachers of lobbying and campaigning against the varsity’s administration, IJT believes that the varsity’s administration has always been unfair to them. IJT activists say that the administration obstructed their workings, which were for the betterment of the students.
