Wapda has completed Gomal Zam dam in FATA. The dam will store 1.14 million acre feet of water to irrigate 163,000 acres of land. The project with a generation capacity of 17.4 MW will contribute 91 million units of electricity annually to the national grid.
Benefits of the project on account of flood mitigation have been estimated at $2.6 million annually (this figure is low because of the low density of agriculture and population in the region).
It is easy to assess the benefits of Kalabgah dam with more than five times the storage capacity and over 200 times generation capacity.
