KP to establish TV channel, FM Radio

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussein has said that the provincial government has decided to start its own TV channel and FM Radio to present its stance in an effective manner and compete the negative impression existed against the people of the region. This, he said, while talking to Chief of Party Inter-News Mathew Shelly at Pakhtunkhwa House Islamabad. Secretary Information Azmat Hanif Orkzai and Director Information Shuaibuddin were also present on this occasion.
Mathew informed the minister that his organization was imparting training in Radio and TV journalism to media persons as well as university students besides public and private sector people. He further informed that the organization has signed MoUs with different universities, press clubs, FATA Secretariat and PBC and so far imparted training to hundred of people in this field. He on this occasion offered such training to the media related people of Information Department.
The information minister while welcoming the offer said that his department would take advantage of the same and media related people would be equipped with modern skills and training of the electronic media. He directed the authorities concerned of the department to finalize the same at the earliest.
Mian Iftikhar maintained that media was the only effective weapon through which we could reform the society and get rid of the menace of terrorism and extremism. He added that provincial government had a very clear and uniform policy against terrorism, narcotics and other social evils at all such steps and things harmful to the society could not be supported.
The minister continued that focus on media in past would have prevented the present difficult situation. He added that the terrorists strengthened its network in the far-flung and backward areas through FM Radio channels.
The information minister while elaborating steps taken for rooting out the terrorism and militancy said that the provincial government had hired the services of a well reputed firm for feasibility study of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa TV channel in the province.
Similarly, FM radio channels in Peshawar and Mardan has started its broadcast while 10 more such FM radio channels were in the pipeline, he added. He further said that the government was intending to establish FM radio channels in these districts of the province.
