Governor graces UCP convocation

Pakistan came into being through a vision, not by force, Governor Punjab, Lateef Khosa said during the tenth convocation of the University of Central Punjab at Expo Center, Johar Town, Lahore on Tuesday. Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Dr Nadeem-ul-Haq was the Guest of Honour. Khosa emphasized the importance of education in Islam and said no country can progress and prosper unless and until its literacy level is not improved.
He stressed upon female education and said that he was delighted to know that there is no gender discrimination at UCP. He further appreciated the contribution made by Chairman Board of Governors, Mian Amer Mahmood and his commendable role in the field of education by supplementing the efforts of the government. An impressive turnout was witnessed of young graduating men and women, their parents and guests. Chairman Board of Governors UCP Mian Amer Mahmood was also present.
Degrees in various disciplines were conferred to the qualifying candidates as they were presented to the chief guest by their respective deans. Sana Riaz of BBA (Hons), student of Faculty of Management Studies, received Roll of Honor on her outstanding achievement. Five hundred and thirty seven students were awarded degrees. MBA (247), MBA Banking and Finance (81), MBA Executive (30), Mphil in Commerce (1), MCom (24), BCom (Hons) 7, MSCS (13), MS Telecomm Science (5), BBA Honors (97), BSCS (13) and MS in Commerce (17)
Governor further said the present era is an era of intellect and knowledge and the days of expansion have gone. He also said that in the cave of Hira, the first revelation to our Prophet (PBUH) was Iqra. This one word which means read signifies the centrality of literacy and learning in Islam. Nadeem-ul-Haq also congratulated the graduating students and their parents. He advised the students that time had come to pay back to one’s parents and country.
He also warned the students that never forget Pakistan while thinking globally. He also advised the students to follow successful persons in order to achieve desired destinations. Pro-Rector UCP Prof Dr Tahir A Hijazi in his welcome address enumerated the University’s achievements over the years. He said that after moving to new campus last year, the number of applicants for admission has increased on average by 40 percent over last year. . He further said that the Volunteer-in-Service Program of UCP has been extended it further by including student’s projects like training police and hospital nurses in the computer skills.
Muhmmad Faizan Hassan in MBA, Fiza Zaib in MBA Banking and Finance, Sana Riaz Malik in BBA (Hons), Shabeer Ahmad in MSCS, Nadia Sarwar in BSCS (Hons) and Saida Razaq in Mcom bagged first positions.
In the end, governor felicitated the passing students, the prize winners, their proud parents as well as their teachers.
