FRA plans anti-corruption drive

Federal Revenue Alliance (FRA) employees union has decided to execute a well planned campaign against rampant corruption and discrimination in the promotion of lower rank officials in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The decision was made during the central executive body meeting, held here at Regional Tax Office (RTO) yesterday.
FRA members highlighted a set of issues, including inspectors and other lower staff promotions and the indifference exhibited by the management at various RTOs. In addition, the meeting addressed membership matters and inclusion of new members in central executive body from customs collectorates and RTO, Karachi.
The meeting was chaired by FRA President Mian Abdul Qayyum, which proposed that FBR employees would finalise their budget proposal during this week to increase tax revenues and curb corruption. FRA office bearers and members from various collectorates across Pakistan participated in the central executive body meeting.
It is interesting to note that RTO senior officials refused to allow FRA central executive body meeting on the RTO’s premises, but owing to strong pressure from the lower staff management, had to back down form its position. The central executive body meeting had once again proved that friction between FBR employees union and senior management is increasing every day as senior officials in the FBR are not used to face such opposition in the board earlier.
