Youme-e-Shuhada observed in Gujranwala

Youme-e-Shuhada was observed with perseverance and solemnity at Gujranwala Cantt. The day was marked to commemorate great sacrifices of the Pak Army while protecting the motherland against internal and external threats. According to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, a graceful wreath-laying ceremony was held at Yadgar-e-Shuhada (Nishan-e-Manzil) to pay homage to the sons of the land for their supreme sacrifices.
Gujranwala Corps Commander Lieutenant General Raheel Sharif placed a floral wreath on the Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offered fateha while a contingent presented salute to pay respect to the officers, junior commissioned officers and soldiers for their sacrifices offered during the wars against India and terrorists.
The corps commander said the Pakistan Army stood committed to defend and protect Pakistan at all costs. He added that it was a day which marked the will and determination of the Pakistan Army and the people of Pakistan to defend their country against multifarious threats and struggle for a strong and prosperous Pakistan. A large gathering of Shahuda families, war veterans and serving/retired officers witnessed the ceremony.
ROBBERS LOOT RS 5.5M, VALUABLES: Armed robbers looted Rs 5.5 million from a multinational company’s office and snatched jewellery, motorcycles, cash and cell phones in separate hits on the city roads. In the first incident, at least five dacoits entered the office of an ice cream factory at Otawa in the jurisdiction of Gujranwala Sadar police and looted Rs 5.5 million, six cell phones and other valuables after taking security guards hostage.
In the second incident, three masked robbers stopped Haji Sana Ullah Warraich, a local peasant, at gunpoint and looted his motorcycle and Rs 22,300 near Kot Shera village. In the third incident, four robbers looted Rs 7,000 and a cell phone from Muhammad Waris and forced him to run away just before the sunset. In the fourth incident, two pillion riders snatched Rs 24,500, a cell phone and gold ornaments from a family in Muslim Town Rahwali and fled.
THREE KILLED IN ROAD ACCIDENT: At least three people lost their lives in two road accidents in the city. In the first incident, a speedy van ran over a motorcycle on Alipur Road and crushed Khurram Shahzad and his colleague to death. Both the corpses were moved to a hospital while the police have arrested the van driver and lodged a case against him. In the second incident, a 65-year-old unidentified man died after being hit by a speedy car at a bypass road near Khiali Shahpur while the van driver escaped after the incident.
