Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf said that he was surprised that al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was in Abbottabad.
“It does surprise me. I don’t know the details,” Musharraf told CNN-IBN, after US President Barack Obama announced in Washington that the world’s most wanted terrorist had been killed in a US-led operation.
Musharraf, who was the Pakistan president during the 9/11 strike, said the operation by US forces was a “violation of our sovereignty”.
“America coming to our territory and taking action is a violation of our sovereignty. Handling and execution of the operation (by US forces) is not correct. The Pakistani government should have been kept in the loop,” Musharraf told.
“Foreign troops crossing the border into Pakistan will not be liked by the people of Pakistan. US forces should not have crossed over into Pakistan,” he added.
Responding to a query, Musharraf said: “If there is lack of trust, it is very bad. We are fighting the same enemy.”
He said the operation was a failure of intelligence, “a failure of both Pakistani and US intelligence”.

Pres.Musharraf…Being an ex military man..and a true patriot of Pakistan..your comments are extremely well informed…however, rather than that angle..Why not be a statesman and begin a healing process..and call on the goodness of your religion, and it's followers to say let us focus on good people and good energy…rather than the purveyors of darkness .I'm sure that after 9/11 many ,many Pakistani people were saddened by innocent lives being taken…Let's begin anew and look for the goodness that we all possess.
Because letting Pakistan know about our intelligence operations worked so well the past 10 years. Look up "Airlift of Evil" to see what happens when your government is well informed…
I love it when ex-generals make claims about sovereignty and complain about American interference, all the while accepting $1billion annually in military aid.
Your government's lying to you, to appease the populace who will hate America no matter what. Of course they allow these things to go on, their military budget is funded by a foreign power.
You want independence? You want sovereignty? You want to complain about America in your country? Or do you want to continue having someone else pay your defense bill?
