Lahoris ponder upon Osama’s killing

Osama Bin Laden’s killing in Abottabad has triggered numerous questions in the minds of residents of the provincial capital. Many questioned America for not revealing Osama’s pictures or videos after possessing Osama’s body for hours.
According to the media, Osama, the man who had been topping the list of world’s most wanted men for the last ten years, was hiding in a mansion in Pakistan’s well-known military hub Abbottabad. Rushda Anjum, a media student at Kinnaird College, said that she was confused. “I don’t know whether Obama’s killing is in Pakistan’s favour or not,” she said. She said that she was not sure whether ‘the war’ was now over or not. “9/11 changed the world politics.
I wonder what will be the effects of 2/4. We can expect any sort of reaction form the extremists,” she added. Mohammad Ibrahim Qazi, another student, said, “I have seen turbulent discussions over the blogs, however in my opinion the government should render a statement quenching the thirst of the countrymen’s curiosity.
The unwanted forces have continuously breached the sovereignty of our frontiers. We are living in a proxy war zone and I am concerned for the security of Pakistan’s nuclear assets now.” “Osama should have been killed but not in Pakistan. The Pakistanis leaving abroad would go through a tougher assessment now”, feared Abdullah Syed, a student, while Anushay Niazi Khan,
a student from the Lahore University of Management Sciences, believed that there was something fishy about the incident. Khan said, “Benazir’s statement is still on youtube, where she said that Osama died in 2004. What was that then?” Mir Juma Jamali, a student of Lahore School of Economics, said, “Wasn’t Osama an American agent? This incident has confused the public.”
Huzaifa Lodhi, the vice president of an asset management firm, said, “What remains to be seen is how the international community is going to react to the fact that Osama was hiding in the heart of Pakistan. Fingers will be pointed at us and funding would stop. And this might further isolate us from the international community, adding to the already brittle economic situation.”
Adnan Malik, a resident of Defence Housing Authority, said that he had seen a photograph of Osama’s body on the internet and he thought it was fake. “I think the photos are fake but he is dead. There was probably nothing left of him to show,” he added. Another resident of DHA, Samir Khan, thinks that everything was planned.
