IPO underlines need for awareness in public & private sector

Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan (IPO) Chairman Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi has laid emphasis on creating awareness and capacity building of concerned organisations both in the private and government sector for adherence of Intellectual property rights obligations. He said it is imperative to promote the concept of IPO for poverty alleviation and expansion of job opportunities in the country.
He stated this while chairing a briefing in IPO Regional Office. President Basmati Growers Association Chaudhry Hamid Malhi, WTO Commerce and Investment Department Nasir Rafique and IPO Regional Office Officer Gul Sher Khan. IPO-Pakistan chairman said that under the supervision and guidance of the prime minister and according to the international commitments; efforts were being made to regulate the functions of this important organisation which is the backbone of national economy and a number of initiatives had been undertaken to establish linkages among the stakeholders, clients and IPO.
He said this organization was kept neglected in the past but due consideration is being given to associates relevant experts and with the consultation of stakeholders effective and result-oriented programmes would be implemented for expediting registry process and brining maximum trademarks, patents under the cover of IPO. Jan assured that after restructuring of the IPO organisation, a road map would be developed to accelerate the pace of working besides improving capacities of IPO officials and representatives of allied organisations.
He said IPO-Pakistan has great potential for growth of economic sector and it would be made a vibrant organization by achieving the targets. The chairman assured the adoption of immediate measures to fill all vacant posts and provision of necessary equipment to expedite the process of registered applications. He said service rules of the employees of IPO would be drafted to acknowledge their contributions and protection of jobs. Similarly, ineffective boards and committees would be reconstituted for better coordination among the working partners.
The chairman also stated that effective steps would be adopted to accelerate the disposal of pending applications by posting relevant staff in IPO Regional Office Lahore. PRESS RELEASE
