“I foresee a big change in Pakistan in the coming days. The next general election will result in Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s Pakistan,” said Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre Board of Governors Chairman Imran Khan Niazi on Saturday.
He was at the Oxford University Press (OUP) Pakistan head office where he was the chief guest for the launching ceremony of the third edition of ‘The Jinnah Anthology’ and the Jinnah Awards ceremony, which was attended by diplomats, corporate heads, academics and the media. The Jinnah Society (TJS) honoured Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation Director Dr Adeeb Rizvi, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Director IA Rehman and Imran Khan Niazi with the Jinnah Award 2008, 2009 and 2010, respectively.
The awards were conferred in recognition of their outstanding services rendered with the utmost integrity, dignity and dedicated commitment to the cause of Pakistan, and prominent politician Sardar Sherbaz Khan Mazari was present on the occasion to hand them their awards. OUP Pakistan Managing Director Ameena Saiyid said on the occasion that ‘The Jinnah Anthology’ is a great source of information on the man who, despite gargantuan odds, seized Pakistan from powerful, unwilling hands and put it on the map of the world.
She added that the book would delight academics, researchers, historians, students and general readers alike, and provide useful information and insights into the personality of Pakistan’s great leader. TJS President Liaquat Merchant restated TJS’s concept of ‘Jinnah’s Pakistan’ that calls for reverting to Jinnah’s ideals, principles and vision as a nation-building exercise. He pointed out the need to translate Jinnah’s vision into a progressive and tolerant country, and to encourage developing leadership in the role model of Jinnah. TJS propagates the principles, the ideals and the vision of the Quaid-e-Azam and confers an award a year to a distinguished citizen of Pakistan for her or his exemplary contribution to the country in her or his respective area of service. The selection of the candidates is done by a jury comprising the members of TJS, and the recipients of the award are chosen by ballot.
