A simple but impressive ceremony was held in Malir Garrison to pay homage to the martyrs of the Pakistan Army on Saturday. Corps Commander Lieutenant General Muhammad Zahir ul Islam laid a floral wreath at the ‘Yadgar-e-Shuhada’ and offered fateha. According to an ISPR press release, a smartly turned out guard presented the salute. The function was attended by the relatives of the martyrs, officers and senior civil servants. The corps commander paid rich tributes to the Pakistan Army and its martyrs for making the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. He said that backed by the people of Pakistan, the Pakistan Army has always risen to the occasion; be it guarding the frontiers, helping and protecting precious lives during natural calamities or clearing the society off the malice of terrorism. Moreover, by participating in various United Nations missions across the globe with honour, dignity and dedication, the army has made the nation proud. The day-long event started with Quran Khawani and special prayers for the martyrs and the preservation of integrity, sovereignty and solidarity of the motherland at mosques in the garrison after fajr prayers. Special darbars were held in which the commanding officers highlighted the significance of the day. April 30 has been declared as Youm-e-Shuhada to pay collective homage to the nation’s martyrs.
