US officials train Pakistani prosecutors

The US Department of Justice and its embassy’s Office of Narcotics Affairs Friday completed a week-long workshop on ‘Case Preparation and Trial Skills’ for Pakistani prosecutors. The programme examined how prosecutors screen, analyse, and handle the cases – from the initial case preparation to the verdict, with an aim to increase criminal convictions through an improved process. District Judge David O Carter from the United States in a briefing told media representatives that twenty-seven prosecutors from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa participated in the workshop to study the basic rules of case analysis, evidence, advocacy techniques, trial strategy, witness preparation, oral argument, and witness examination. Two federal judges, two government prosecutors and two police officers from the US besides three Pakistani defence counsels provided instructions, he added.
