Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced setting up a new power department in the province to speedily work on various projects of power generation. He made the announcement in a meeting of provincial cabinet at the CM’s Secretariat on Friday. The cabinet also gave approval to the Lahore Rapid Mass Transit System with certain amendments, 120MW hydel power project on Taunsa Barrage and the agreements reached with Chinese companies for mapping of wind power potential in Punjab. Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz said the provision of modern and comfortable transport facilities to the masses was the top priority of the government and solid measures were being taken for the purpose. The CM announced setting up a separate power department in the province, saying the energy crisis was leaving a negative impact on economy and there was a need for emergent measures to cope with the problem.
