Prayer leader among four killed

Four people, including a prayer leader, were killed in separate violent incidents in the city on Friday. A prayer leader was shot dead while heading to a mosque to offer the Fajr prayer in the Soldier Bazaar area. Police said that Maulana Irshadullah Abbasi, 45, son of Abdullah, was to lead the morning prayers at Dua Masjid when he was gunned down by unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle in the Garden East area.
The victim was a resident of Moon Apartments, Garden East and was the prayer leader at Dua Masjid for the past 25 years. He was also a teacher at Jamia Binoria. Separately, the Pak Colony police recovered two dead bodies from the area. Pak Colony SHO Malik Ayub said the tortured body of an unidentified man in his late twenties was found on Kaleem Awami Guard Street on early Friday morning. The victim had been tortured before being strangulated to death.
Ayub said another body of an unidentified man, in his early forties, was found stuffed in a gunny bag near Mewa Shah Graveyard. The hands and feet of the victim were tied with rope and he had been shot. Torture marks on the victim’s body suggested he was kidnapped before being killed. The bodies were taken to Abbassi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and shifted to Edhi morgue after medico-legal formalities.
Another bullet-riddled body stuffed in a gunny bag was recovered from the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area. Police said the body of an unidentified man, probably in his mid-twenties, was found near Saleema Center in Block 11, Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
