Law enforcement agencies conducted an unannounced operation in different parts of Baldia Town in the wee hours on Friday and took several people into custody for interrogation. The operation was carried out in Ittehad Town, Afridi Chowk, Khyber Chowk and other parts of the locality, with an overwhelming majority of Pakhtuns.
It started around 3:00am and continued till sunrise. The female personnel also participated in the operation. The sudden action caused panic among the residents while schools and shops remained closed and people could not attend their offices. Sources said that at least four to five hundred people were detained and shifted to a playground of a local school.
