President Asif Ali Zardari Thursday advised the government to monitor the DCOs and other district functionaries who were conducting the National Emergency Action Plan 2011 for Polio Eradication. The president was chairing meeting on polio eradication campaign.
He was told that in the current year, as many as 33 polio cases had been detected in 33 high risks districts which include 10 cases in Sindh, 14 in FATA and 7 in Balochistan. The meeting held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr and it was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Syed Masood Kauser, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Amir Hyder Khan Hoti, Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah, Senator Syeda Sughra Imam, MNA Asma Arbab Alamgir, Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Aziz Memon, National Chair Pakistan Polio plus Committee of Rotary International Nargis Sethi, federal health secretary, provincial health secretaries, spokesperson for the President Farhatullah Babar and other high official of the relevant departments.
The President while expressing concern over the polio cases said that the help of security agencies could be sought in implementing the anti polio-drive in the tribal areas. He directed the health and other relevant departments involved in polio eradication campaign to step up efforts take the campaign to the level of UCs, villages and streets and homes to make Pakistan a polio-free country.
He appreciated and lauded the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation for providing generous contribution and support to the government of Pakistan in polio eradiation campaign.
