Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique came down hard on Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday for his government’s failure to resolve the people’s issues and give a new direction to the country’s policies.
Taking part in debate on the presidential address to the joint sitting of the parliament, Rafique said mostly corrupt and inept people were seen around Gilani, whose government was still pursuing the policies of former president General Pervez Musharraf.
“Gilani has surrendered the sovereignty of the country even more than Musharraf did. He has badly disappointed even people like me who spent some time in jail with him. He is a changed person now and has compromised on his political views,” said the PML-N leader, referring to the premier’s lackluster performance as prime minister.
“This is yellow democracy and let me also confess here that even my party went too far to accommodate the PPP (Pakistan People’s Party) by playing a friendly opposition’s role, fearing that a tough opposition may invite army intervention. But we will no longer play a friendly game. We can’t even face people on the streets who feel we betrayed them. We will prove to be a tough opposition now and the temperature in this house would now be raised,” he stated.
