More than 30 militants were killed in military offensives in scattered areas of Kurram and Orakzai agencies on Thursday, while a soldier of the armed forces was killed and five others were injured when an Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) detonated in Mohmand Agency. Reports from Parachinar, headquarters of Kurram Agency, said security forces backed by helicopter gunships targeted militant hideouts in Meeranbandi, Chanarak, Sangroba and other areas.
Officials said at least 23 militants were killed and several others injured in the military action. A number of dens and compounds in militants’ use were destroyed in the offensive. A clash was reported in Kurram Agency that resulted in the killing of four militants. Local officials said the clash broke out between militants and volunteers of a tribal peace lashkar. Officials in Hangu told reporters that security forces shot dead five militants during an offensive in Orakzai.
They said two militant hideouts were also destroyed in the operation. Meanwhile, a soldier was killed and five others were injured in an IED blast in Alingar area of Mohmand Agency. Following the incident, the security forces launched a search operation and arrested several suspects. The militants also blew up a Basic Health Unit at Ghairdandh area of Baezai tehsil of Mohmand Agency.
