The Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) managing director has claimed that there would be no load shedding in the country if the circular debt was paid off completely. “Clear the circular debt first, then you can cut my throat if you hear about load shedding,” the PEPCO chief said at a meeting of the prime minister’s Business Persons Council (PMBPC) in Islamabad on Tuesday, a source who attended the meeting told Pakistan Today on Thursday.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Finance Minister Dr Hafeez Sheikh, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr Nadeemul Haq, the State Bank governor, FBR chairman, Petroleum Adviser Dr Asim Hussain and heads of the corporate sector’s major companies attended the PMBPC meeting.
