The Rawalpindi police on Wednesday claimed to have sized a mini-truck laden with arms and ammunitions and arrested six people, including three personnel of Railways Police, for their alleged involvement in weapons smuggling. The Airport police stopped a mini-truck on Tuesday and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition.
Sub-inspector M Bashir said the police party was performing routine duty at a police picket near Grassy Lane when they intercepted a car and Shahzore Truck. He said officials searched the vehicles and seized 31 wooden boxes packed with arms and ammunitions and arrested all six men travelling in the car and truck. The official said the arrested men later turned out to be arms’ dealers and also presented the licences for the arms, which have been sent to Interior Ministry for verification.
He said 95 Repeater Riffles, 70 pistols of 30 bore, 28 pistols of 9mm and 80,000 bullets were packed in the boxes.
