The National Crisis Management Cell warned the law enforcement agencies that a group of terrorists is planning to attack the French embassy in the federal capital. According to a source, the cell wrote a letter to Islamabad Chief Commissioner Tariq Mehmood Pirzada and Inspector General of Police Wajid Ali Khan Durrani to ensure extraordinary security arrangements.
The letter also provided details about how and when the terrorists would attack the embassy. The source said directives were issued to the law enforcers to enhance the security around the embassy and the staff. The police, in response, launched a search operation in the city and arrested a suspected person, stated to be linked to the terrorists.
Fresh instructions were also issued for strict checking at the pickets around the city as well as at the entry and exit points. Durrani, when contacted, denied reports of receiving any letter regarding threats to French embassy. “There are common threat of terrorist attacks; therefore, we have put the security on high alert across the city”, he added.
