The Sindh police have been directed to collect data on suspects and share this information with the Interior Ministry, the federal law enforcement agencies and other provinces, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said while presiding over a meeting on the law and order situation along with Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday at the Chief Minister’s House.
“The police will also submit a list of those who have committed crimes and are now released on bail,” he added.
According to an official handout, the participants of the meeting were informed that from January to April this year, 557 people were killed in Karachi and 153 of these murders were targeted killing cases.
It was also decided during the meeting that office-bearers of banned organisations would not be allowed to operate using a new outfit’s name.
Shah said that steps would be taken for better coordination between provinces so that criminals are stopped from taking refuge in neighbouring provinces.
The meeting also decided not to allow anyone to enter a crime scene till forensic experts have given clearance.
Appreciating the efforts of law enforcement agencies (LEAs), the interior minister stressed the need of coordinated efforts for maintaining a peaceful law and order situation particularly in Karachi.
Various decisions were taken in the meeting aimed at maintaining law and order in Karachi including re-verification of pre-paid mobile phone SIMs and IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) numbers of mobile phones within thirty days; non-issuance of new SIMs to the purchaser while posting it through registered post as per the person’s CNIC address, either permanent or temporary.
It was further decided at the meeting that the police and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will conduct raids, if anybody was found not complying with the instructions. The FIA and the police have already been instructed in this regard.
The Sindh chief minister stressed upon the LEAs particularly police and Rangers personnel to pay full attention towards elimination of criminals and curbing anti-social elements and terrorist activities from the country.
He added that several elements were trying to destabilise the government, which is doing the needful to root out the menace of terrorism, targeted killings, robberies, etc.
Lauding the efforts of police and Rangers, the chief minister said that those working hard will be rewarded for encouragement. He said a strategy has been evolved to keep a constant vigilance on the activities of criminals and terrorists.
The efforts of police, Rangers, the Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) were also appreciated at the meeting, which decided to give ‘Gallantry Award’ to the officials, while recommendations were sought for other deserving LEAs personnel.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Chief Secretary Abdul Subhan Memon, Sindh IGP Fayyaz Laghari, Rangers Sindh Deputy Director General Col Zafar, Sindh Home Secretary Riazuddin, Karachi CCPO Saud Mirza, Additional IG Special Branch Akhtar Memon, Intelligence Bureau Director Manzoor Mughal, Secretary to Sindh Chief Minister Alamuddin Bullo, Deputy IGPs of South, East and West Zones and other representatives of intelligence agencies.
