Climate change policy draft approved

Environment and Women Development Minister Samina Khalid Ghurki approved the climate change policy’s draft during a core group meeting on climate change on Tuesday. A few months back when this draft was presented for feedback, the environmental experts rejected it declaring it a copy-paste work on the part of the Ministry of Environment.
Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry, a leading author of this draft, told Pakistan Today that this was a comprehensive work and we had taken all stakeholders into account. While chairing the meeting, Samina Khalid said that Pakistan was the most vulnerable country due to the global warming and climate change. She added that the need of time was to make comprehensive measures to meet the challenges of the global warming and climate change.
She said Pakistan was facing extra ordinary pressure of the worse impact of climate change however sustainable and long lasting plans of action and different projects had to be made to tackle these challenges. She further said the climate change policy draft was a landmark initiative of the ministry and lauded the efforts of all core group members who rendered their extra ordinary services for this mission.
She said the ministry would leave no stone unturned to provide healthy and green environment to our coming generations. Environment Federal Secretary Khawaja Muhammad Naeem briefed the meeting that the draft was finalised after continuous consultation with all provinces and related stakeholders.
