Those talking about the creation of new provinces in Sindh should remember their past as Punjab has always played a key role in increasing sense of deprivation among smaller provinces by issuing such statements, said Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Monday.
Speaking with journalists at his office, he said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, by talking about carving out Karachi as a separate province, has added salt to the wounds of people living in Sindh. “It appears to be a conspiracy against the solidarity, stability and sovereignty of the country,” he added.
“There is a huge difference of population and area in Sindh and Punjab, while the people of Punjab have themselves demanded the creation of a new province. It is purely the Punjab’s administrative problem and it should settle the issue,” said Khuhro.
“As far as the creation of a new province in Sindh is concerned, the people living in Sindh have never demanded a new province, and peace, love and harmony exist among the people as well as among various political parties,” he added.
The Sindh Assembly speaker said that Punjab has played anti-PPP and anti-Sindh politics, whereas, Shahbaz Sharif first issues such statements but later seeks forgiveness.
He further said that Punjab being the larger province should show political maturity and avoid making demands and statements that may cause destabilisation of democracy. “Punjab should play a positive role in the political scenario of the country to end hatred and spread the message of love and unity among the federating units of Pakistan,” added Khuhro.
