The Lahore High Court (LHC) allowed on Tuesday more time to the federal government to file its reply on a petition seeking directions for interior and foreign affairs’ ministries to provide the Punjab government with complete information about foreigners living in the province.
A deputy attorney general appeared in the court of Justice Iftikhar Hussain and sought time for the federal government to file its reply. The judge adjourned the hearing of the petition until a date to be fixed by the court office.
Advocate Noshab A Khan filed the petition against a backdrop of murder of two young Pakistani citizens at Qartaba Chowk by Central Intelligence Agency contractor Raymond Davis. The petitioner submitted that scarcity of correct information about Raymond had caused immense hardship for the public at large and himself as well.
He, therefore, prayed that the interior and foreign affairs’ ministries be directed to supply all necessary information to the Punjab interior secretary about foreigners residing in the province, their duties, functions, whereabouts, movements and designs. The petitioner further prayed that the Punjab government be also directed to take all necessary measures to safeguard the precious life and property of citizens especially from the hands of foreigners.
