The federal Law Ministry on Monday submitted an application in the Supreme Court seeking the complete record of the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto death sentence case. The application was filed with the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office by the Law Ministry senior consultant Arif Chaudhry. The applicant requested the court to provide the complete record of the ZAB case, including the statements of five approvers.
The interim orders of the Lahore High Court and the apex court, as well as the audio record of courts’ proceedings, have also been sought. A larger bench of the Supreme Court will start hearing the presidential reference for revisiting the case of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on May 2. On the last hearing, the court had requisitioned all the relevant record of the Bhutto case, including the FIR, from the Lahore High Court.
The court had appointed from all provinces 10 senior lawyers, including Ali Ahmed Kurd, Tariq Mahmood, Abdul Hafeez Pirzada, Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, Khalid Anwar, Makhdoom Ali Khan, SM Zafar, Aitzaz Ahsan, Zahoorul Haq and Abdul Latif Afridi as amicus curiae.
