Besides top seed Aqeel Khan, Asim Shafik, Yasir Khan, Munir Ashiq, Shahzad Ahmed, Faizan Khurram, Heera Ashiq and Jalil Khan moved into the second round of the 1st Capital Development Authority Margalla National Ranking Tennis Tournament 2011 by beating their respective opponents here at the Pakistan Tennis Complex on Monday. President Pakistan Tennis Federation Syed Kaleem graced the opening ceremony as chief guest and assured the players that the PTF would work to uplift tennis. “It is their duty to toil hard in the court and to enhance their game skills, however, PTF will organise training camps for them in the future,” he said. On Monday, 52 matches were decided, including 24 in men’s qualifying, 16 in men’s singles and 12 in boys’ U18 singles round .
The players are contesting for top honours in the men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, juniors’ U18 singles, boys’ U14 singles and seniors’ doubles (45 plus) categories. Arham Atiq, Waqas Malak, Inam ullah, Ali Murrad, Sanaullah, Hassan Tariq, Jibran ul Haq and Kashan ul Haq qualified for the main draw of men’s singles after winning their two rounds of qualifying matches. After the qualifying matches of the men’s singles event, the main draws of men’s singles were played.
