Pakistan women’s cricket team won the rain-hit T20 Quadrangular Series final at the Colts Cricket Club Ground, Colombo, on Sunday. According to reports received here, the Quadrangular failed to last full 40 overs due to rain. Reduced to nine-over-a-side, Pakistan women’s won the final against the Netherlands by 12 runs.
Apart from Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Netherlands and Ireland were the two other teams. Pakistan reached the final after a Duckworth-Lewis method handed them a win against Ireland, while Netherlands’ first match against Sri Lanka was abandoned after one over of Sri Lanka’s innings, and they got through to the final by virtue of a coin toss. Pakistan piled up 53 for seven in nine overs.
They later restricted their opponents to 41 for one. Javeria Khan and Bismah Maroof with 14 and 12 runs respectively were the highest scorers as they hit three boundaries each. Evelien Gerrits was the pick of the bowlers from Netherlands when she grabbed three wickets for 13. In reply, Netherlands crawled to 41 runs with the fall of just one wicket.
Their openers shared 30-run partnership. And Pakistani bowler Qanita Jalil and Masooma Junaid made the runs flow difficult by giving away just five runs each in two overs while Sana Mir finished with 1 for 4 from her two.
