Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that he never said that Karachi should be made a separate province and his statement was quoted out of context.
Talking to media after inauguration of ‘Ittefaq cricket ground’ on Monday, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif explained his statement in Dera Ghazi Khan regarding establishment of new provinces that he neither demanded to make Karachi a new province nor opposed establishment of new provinces in Sindh.
He said that he was not opposing the creation of new provinces, but never said that Karachi be made separately a province either, he stated in response to a question by journalists on Monday.
The chief minister, told reporters that he was questioned whether new provinces of Bahawalpur and Seraiki should be made and in response to that, he had said that not only should these provinces be created, but if necessary other provinces should also be made and that he was not against establishing new provinces.
He said that he had just been speculating the possibility and not suggesting that Karachi should be made a separate province or that Karachi should be separated from Sindh but media quoted his statement out of context.
CM further said that after return of Mian Shahbaz Sharif important issues including establishment of new provinces would be consulted.
Answering to a question CM Shahbaz Sharif replied that he did not hit any bouncer but no match fixing would be done.
Earlier, a number of political parties protested against his statement for calling Karachi a separate province.
