As part of the 25th anniversary celebration series of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), a ‘LUMS Day’ was organised in Washington DC on Monday. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US in Washington Husain Haqqani participated in the event on special invitation by LUMS Pro-Chancellor Syed Babar Ali. Haqqani reiterated the importance of educating Pakistan’s youth and praised LUMS’s contribution in this regard. He also emphasized the need for complementing rigorous technical education with strategic thinking which was needed to solve Pakistan’s complex and inter-connected challenges.
The Ambassador’s speech was followed by screenings of videos related to LUMS’s 25th anniversary and the National Outreach Programme (NOP). The videos, particularly the NOP video was appreciated for highlighting the scholarship initiative taken by LUMS in 2001 to induct talented and financially deserving candidates from all over Pakistan.
Syed Babar Ali discussed the future vision for LUMS and the NOP. He said LUMS alumni make good ambassadors for Pakistan abroad. He said that the alumni contribute generously both in terms of ideas and financial resources and serve as a link between Pakistani talent and the global markets.
