The one-and-a-half goal handicap earned the Aitchisonians team the Members Cup when they sneaked past Guard Group to lift the trophy here at the Lahore Polo Club’s Aibak ground on Sunday. The Aitchisonian quartet and their Guard rivals hit five goals each but the one-and-a-half goal advantage separated the teams despite an otherwise hard-fought final. Earlier in the day Dewa’s Own managed an easy 8-5 win over Hira Valves.
It was Ahmed Ali Tiwana who converted all the five goals for the Aitchisonians while Hamza Mawaz Khan and Taimur Ali Malik gave their everything but could not alter the result. Earlier, Saqib Khan Khakwani hammered Hira Valves with seven goals while Syed Zaigham Abbas Naqvi got one to earn a big win for Dewa’s Own while Hira Valves managed to score through Mian Khurram Munir and Feroze Gulzar.
Omar Asjad Malhi and Hassan Ali Farrukh were the umpires for the matches while Mrs Neelum Mawaz Khan, who was the chief guest, presented the trophy and other prizes to the winners.
