The Karachi Transporters Action Committee (KTAC) has appealed to the government to help keep a check on petrol pumps as many of them rig meters.
In a statement issued on Sunday, KTAC President Mohammed Ashraf said his organisation has received several serious complaints from transporters against the fuel stations, where their meters are rigged and their owners make windfall profits by fleecing the public.
“There have been many incidents in which transporters had a scuffle with fuel station employees as the meters were found to be rigged,” he said.
The KTAC president said that fuel prices are increasing and in such circumstances, the shenanigans of fuel station owners are intolerable.
“Not only are meter-rigging cases found at privately-run fuel stations, but this is happening at fuel stations affiliated with public sector companies as well,” he added.
