Instead of imposing the Reformed General Sales Tax on the people of Pakistan, income tax should be collected from landlords for financial stability of the country, former foreign affairs minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Saturday.
While talking to the media after meeting with the members of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s Coordination Committee at Nine Zero, Qureshi said that he would remember the respect he received at the MQM headquarters. The MQM of 2011 is very different from the MQM of 1990, he added.
He said that MQM chief Altaf Hussain has given many opportunities to the middle-class leaders for playing their role since progress could be made only through middle-class leadership. The former foreign minister said that besieging the MQM is not a good decision, and that he supports the MQM expanding its activities throughout the country.
Uniting all the political forces is imperative to strengthen the country, but reservations by any party show that they give more importance to their political seat, he added. Responding to a query, Qureshi said that Punjab is a big province, and that to improve administration, new provinces could be formed.
