The Punjab Agriculture Department has urged cotton growers to complete sowing by the mid of May and ensure that recommended seed varieties are being used for this purpose. The Punjab Agriculture spokesman, on Saturday, said that farmers should remove pills from the seeds, adding that 10kg seeds pill could be removed with one liter of import quality sulphur acid.
He stated that growers should take seeds to the nearby agriculture outlet and seek advice from experts on applying pesticides. He maintained it would help in keeping the seed safe from juice sucking insects. He advised the farmers not to grow Ladyfinger, tomato, sunflower, chili, and brinjal plants near cotton crop, as these become the sanctuary of mealy bugs.
