Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA Chaudhry Saud Majeed said on Sunday Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif-led delegation’s visit to China would usher in a new era of progress and prosperity in the province. “This visit was on the invitation of Chinese Communist Party to PML-N as the former aspires to develop long-term political relations with our party.
The Communist Party extended all-out encouragement and patronage to the PML-N delegation and the Punjab government,” said Ch Saud Majeed, who was among the 20-member delegation that visited China, in an exclusive talk with Pakistan Today. He said all the PML-N leaders or parliamentarians, including the chief minister, bore themselves the expenses of the visit.
Majeed said the visit was highly significant for giving boost to socio-economic cooperation between the two countries. “China is a sincere friend of Pakistan and the visit has yielded positive and far-reaching results,” he observed. He said the Punjab government signed agreements with China in communications, infrastructure and energy sectors.
“A 120MW hydel powerhouse will be constructed at Taunsa with the cooperation of China,” he said. The PML-N lawmaker claimed that the agreement for Taunsa Power Project with the Chinese company, which built the biggest dam of the world, would prove to be a new chapter of foreign investment in Pakistan.
He said the Three Gorges Dam Company, which was the world’s largest hydel power project in the Chinese province of Hubei, would build a dam without taking any penny from the Punjab government and run it as an IPP. Majeed said Taunsa Power Project would help reduce load shedding, resume industrial activities and create job opportunities.
Under another agreement, Ch Saud Majeed said, a Chinese company would establish a solar power panel manufacturing company in Mianwali, the region where silicon was in abundance. “The same company will also set up 50 megawatt solar power station in Bahawalpur,” he added.
