Speakers at a programme held to mark the World Book Day on Saturday said that there is a need to set up more resourceful libraries and the city as well as other areas of the country and also to make the society realise the importance of readings books. The event was organised by the Institute of Business and Technology (Biztek) in collaboration with the Pakistan Library Club at Biztek’s Executive Development Centre Campus at Shahrah-e-Faisal.
It was a part of Biztek’s strategy to promote academic excellence and awareness programmes on issues relating to book reading, writing and publishing. On the occasion, Pakistan Library Club Director Arshad Mahmood highlighted Biztek’s efforts for making a positive contribution to the society and academic circles. He also explained the aims and objectives of the Pakistan Library Club. Biztek Planning and Linkages Director Prof Sikander Mehdi appreciated the role of Pakistan Library Club in promoting awareness in the society.
“Biztek is always willing to collaborate with UNESCO and Departments of Library Science in different universities in Pakistan and abroad. Biztek would also like to help establish good and resourceful libraries in Karachi and elsewhere in Pakistan, he said. Waseem Zia from the University of Karachi spoke about the importance of libraries in a society and appreciated the contribution of Biztek.
In the end, a prize distribution ceremony was held and prizes were announced for Nida Mushtaq from the National Library of Pakistan, Islamabad, Rauf Ishaq of the Punjab University Library Lahore and journalist Nadeem Kamal.
