Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has called upon the government and the military leadership to convene a roundtable conference for making a conclusive decision regarding the drone attacks.
Hussain said that all the political and religious parties, chiefs of the armed forces and heads of the institutions responsible for national security should be invited to this conference and a decisive line of action be adopted in light of their opinions in the larger interest of the nation.
He also said that a public referendum should be held to learn the public opinion about drone attacks so that the decision taken by the public, the government and the army could be implemented in letter and spirit.
He asked the political and religious parties to set their political and ideological differences aside for arriving at a consensus regarding this grave national issue.
Condemning the drone attacks in North Waziristan, he expressed grief over the death of women and children among other innocent people.
He said that drone attacks in the name of ‘war on terror’ are killing innocent citizens and are an attack on the security and sovereignty of the country, which cannot be justified in any case.
He regretted that the drone attacks and the consequent deaths of innocent people continue unabated, despite strong protests by the public.
