A constitutional petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court to reopen an 82-year-old case of Ghazi Ilmudin, who had killed a Hindu publisher for disgracing the Prophet (PBUH) and was sentenced to death by the then English judges of the LHC in 1929.
Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi of Save Judiciary Committee filed this petition through his counsel, Barrister Farooq Hasan. The petitioner invoked the constitutional jurisdiction of the high court and requested the court to set aside the impugned order by exercising principles of review.
He also prayed that Ghazi Ilmudin should be honoured with state awards. Referring to an example of awarding posthumous award, an after death award, in Ireland, petitioner pleaded that the government should be directed to arrange funeral of Ilmudin with state protocol and declare him innocent. The petition is likely to be heard on Friday (today).
