The biggest contribution to this nexus that has led to colossal losses to PIA of over Rs 62 billion during the last three years is the domination of its management by those holding foreign nationalities. The former MD’s family was settled in Manchester, UK where he owns an expensive palatial villa, with several other properties located in Gulf and a catering business based in Europe, whose services are utilised by PIA on all its European routes and flights operating to America.
He hired an American national on a senior position paying him a package of over Rs three million per month on contract while appointing other American nationals with a history of alleged financial indiscipline to head the marketing and procurement departments.
While PIA was losing, these individuals stood to gain from this loss. PIA balance sheet speaks for itself whether PIA stood to gain from this domination of national airline by those who have no stakes in Pakistan and most of whom lacked requisite experience or qualifications.
